Prosecutor's Office: Case against Rabbi Yoram Abergil closed

The Southern District Attorney's Office announced the closure of the case against Rabbi Yoram Abergil. He was arrested on suspicion of acting with Shalom Domrani to threaten supporters of candidate Eyal Mesika in Netivot. His attorney: "The attorney's office's decision proves our claim from the first moment, that there was no reason to arrest Rabbi Abergil in the first place.""

Today, the Southern District Attorney's Office announced... Closing the case against Rabbi Yoram Abergil in the blackmail affair in the Netivot mayoral elections, in which he was suspected of making threats, along with Shalom Domrani.

 In early November 2013, Rabbi Yoram Abergil, the operator of a kollel network, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in an extortion case. The two were suspected of working together to threaten supporters of candidate Eyal Mesika, who was running against incumbent mayor Yechiel Zohar - whom Rabbi Abergil supported.

 Attorney Amit Haddad, from the office of Dr. Yaakov Weinroth, one of Rabbi Abergil's attorneys: "The decision of the prosecutor's office proves our claim from the first moment, that there was no reason to arrest Rabbi Abergil in the first place. We are pleased and appreciate the professionalism of the prosecutor's office, which examined all the evidence and reached the most appropriate conclusion.".
