Today, the Southern District Attorney's Office announced... Closing the case against Rabbi Yoram Abergil in the blackmail affair in the Netivot mayoral elections, in which he was suspected of making threats, along with Shalom Domrani.
In early November 2013, Rabbi Yoram Abergil, the operator of a kollel network, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in an extortion case. The two were suspected of working together to threaten supporters of candidate Eyal Mesika, who was running against incumbent mayor Yechiel Zohar - whom Rabbi Abergil supported.
Attorney Amit Haddad, from the office of Dr. Yaakov Weinroth, one of Rabbi Abergil's attorneys: "The decision of the prosecutor's office proves our claim from the first moment, that there was no reason to arrest Rabbi Abergil in the first place.
