The Naval Forces and the Research and Development Administration at the Ministry of Defense successfully conducted a test of a sea-to-sea missile system developed by Israel Aerospace Industries.
A pre-planned series of experiments tested the suitability of the new system.
As part of the tests that ended successfully, a cruise missile ship 3 launched a missile at a target that simulated an enemy ship.
The new missile system has more precise attack capabilities, is capable of reaching longer ranges, has improved attack flexibility, and has a better ability to deal with advanced threats.
The tests have qualified the system for operational use in the Navy, with the missiles being integrated into the existing "Saar 5" missile ships and the new "Saar 6" missile ships that are scheduled to be incorporated into the missile ship fleet in the coming months.
""The system is one of the most advanced in the world and represents a revolution in the naval battlefield," said the Defense Ministry's research and development unit. "The advanced technologies enable capabilities never seen before in the field of naval warfare.".
The IDF spokesman's statement read: "The system's implementation constitutes a very significant step in strengthening the naval arm and maintaining the IDF's superiority in the maritime arena.".
