Adele Biton, 4, who was critically injured in a stone-throwing attack in Samaria about a year ago, is hospitalized in the pediatric ward at the Levinstein Rehabilitation Hospital in Ra'anana. Yesterday, her mother, Adva, received a letter from the hospital intended for Adele, warning her that if they do not leave by 12 noon today, "my client will be instructed to take legal action," the Israel Hayom newspaper reports.
Adva, who is 18 weeks pregnant, is begging to keep Adele hospitalized for another four months, at least until the house is accessible for her to enter. "It's inhumane. It's simply impossible to do this on the eve of the holiday. A month and a half ago we were supposed to be released from the hospital and we didn't agree. Bringing Adele home means setting up an entire system to support her. You can't bring a minimally conscious child to an inaccessible house," she said.
According to her, she and her husband Rafi have been dealing with the bureaucracy for more than six months to obtain approvals for a home treatment system and to make it accessible, but nothing is progressing.
Biton also directed her accusations at the hospital director, Prof. Amiram: "I don't understand why he is so opaque." She claimed, "My daughter is lying here in Loewenstein only because she is a Jewish child. She is a victim of terrorism, and the State of Israel must support her.
""My daughter is not a prime minister, but Ariel Sharon spent eight years in the hospital on a floor, at our expense. We gave this girl only 24 hours to live, and here she is, recovering, taking steps. We have three more daughters at home. It's enough that our routine is not normal. Our family fabric has been damaged. My husband Rafi sleeps here every night. I haven't worked for over a year and I only dedicate my life to my daughter.".
The Levinstein Hospital told Israel Hayom: "The team of the pediatric rehabilitation unit fully engaged in their professionalism and contributed their experience and expertise to advance her condition. Adele was supposed to be discharged from the hospital over a month ago, after the family received advance preparation for Adele's discharge home, well in advance. The hospital granted an additional extension of over a month for the family to prepare outside the hospital. Unfortunately, we are unable to extend the period any further. It is important to note that Adele's medical treatment has ended, and there is no justification for her continued hospitalization.".
