Following the complaint by the human rights organization 'Tselmo': The Public Acceptance Ombudsman for Judges, Uri Shoham, reprimanded Supreme Court Justice Meni Mazuz.
According to the Commissioner, the judge should have refrained from speaking against the Minister of Justice.
This is the second reprimand in the past month against judges, following complaints from 'Tselmo'.
As you may recall, at a conference in Haifa, Judge Mazuz spoke against the previous Minister of Justice, Amir Ohana - and stated that he was "a minister against me.".
Recently, Justice Mazuz discussed the minister's case, and when asked why he did not disqualify himself, he claimed that he had never spoken against him.
Following this, 'in his photo' filed a complaint with the Commissioner for not telling the truth.
The commissioner did indeed reprimand the judge for his words, but noted that the judge did not understand the words of the questioner from the audience and therefore was not telling a lie, but he should have been very careful in the future.
The Commissioner noted that Deputy Chief Justice Chaman Meltzer was also recently reprimanded for his comments in favor of an attorney affiliated with the extreme left, and emphasized that judges must be careful with their words both at conferences and outside the courtroom.
The Tselmo organization congratulated and said: "Today, the Supreme Court justices know that they are being criticized. The Tselmo organization is working to monitor the words of the judges and to ensure that they meet the required standards in cooperation with the Commissioner. We will continue to be on guard.".
Attorney Aviad Wesoli, who also complained, said: "The determination by the Complaints Commissioner for Judges that the claim that Judge Mazuz did not tell the truth in a judicial decision constitutes grounds for an investigation by the Commissioner is an extremely important decision, which will make waves in all courts.
""Beyond that, it is regrettable that Mr. Justice Mazuz, in the height of his position as a Supreme Court judge, continues to deny the obvious, that his words referred to Justice Minister Amir Ohana as a minister in opposition to me - a denial that was even rejected by the Ombudsman.".
