הפסקת האש הומניטרית הסתיימה בשעה 19:00, ושעות ספורות לאחר מכן הגביר חמאס את ירי הטילים לעבר יישובי ישראל. אזעקת צבע אדום נשמעה ביישובי המרכז, השפלה, ובאופקים. מערכת כיפת ברזל הצליחה ליירט את אחד הטילים שנורה לעבר המרכז, ושתי רקטות נוספות שנורו לאזור אופקים. שאר הטילים התפוצצו בשטחים פתוחים. מוקדם יותר מסר דובר צה"ל כי שלושה חיילי צה"ל נהרגו ו-15 נוספים נפצעו בשעות הצהריים (רביעי), לאחר שמטען רב עוצמה התפוצץ בתוך בית שבו פעלו בחאן יונס. הכוח זיהה פיר של מנהרה בתוך הבית ובתום סריקות באמצעים שונים, לאחר שהניחו כי הבית נקי ממטענים, הוחלט להיכנס אל הבית, על מנת לחשוף את המנהרה. עם זאת, הכוח לא זיהה מטען חבלה רב עוצמה שהוצמד לקיר החיצוני של הבית. פיצוץ המטען גרם לקריסה של חלק מהמבנה ולפגיעתם של הלוחמים. תחת אש של מחבלים הצליחו הכוחות לחלץ את הנפגעים אל תוך שטח ישראל ולפנות אותם לבתי החולים. בשורה של היתקלויות אחרות נפצעו מספר חיילים נוספים ופונו לקבלת טיפול רפואי. בסך הכל During the day, 27 soldiers were injured in operational activity.
