A passenger waiting for a train on Wednesday last week, around 2:00 PM, at the Hagana station in Tel Aviv, went down onto the tracks in an attempt to catch her dog, which had broken free from its leash and started to run away.
Service steward Idan Melamed, who was accompanying two visually impaired passengers on the platform at that moment and knew that a train was expected to enter the track within a minute, immediately informed the shift manager Assi Avrahami, and he, together with shift manager Avraham Madar, who was at the station, informed the National Railway Command about the incident - and stopped train traffic on the track.
Avrahami then went down to the tracks to return the passenger and the dog, who were wandering around on the tracks, to the platform.
But then the passenger discovered that during the chase after the dog, her bag containing her wallet, money, ID cards, and cell phone had fallen off her.
Avrahami went down the tracks again in a controlled manner, to return the bag.
The interrogation of the passenger, who was frightened, revealed that the dog was tied to a leash, but it came loose and the dog began running towards the tracks.
After a conversation, in which the station staff explained to her the seriousness of her actions, the passenger was released.
