Stormy in the plenary: Deputy Finance Minister MK Mickey Levy of Mish Atid discovered that Labor MK Michal Biran had secretly recorded him - and he was furious.
The Deputy Minister was on his way to the Knesset plenary session to respond to a bill submitted by MK Biran on the subject of pension insurance in state provident funds. But before that, Biran approached his seat in the plenary session and asked to talk to him about the law. They went together to the side of the plenary session, under the gallery, where it is customary to have private conversations on the sidelines of the plenary sessions.
To his surprise, Mickey Levy discovered that Biran was carrying a recording device, with a tiny microphone attached to her lapel, which recorded the conversation with him and transmitted it to the people sitting in the press gallery and taking pictures.
The furious Levy erupted at the Labor MKs sitting in the plenary: "Have you no shame? Have you no boundaries?""
Mickey Levy, furious, went up to the podium and continued to shout: "I demand that the Knesset officer come here. This is not a criminal offense of wiretapping," Levy emphasized, "but where is the line? This is shameful! Our personal conversations are not recorded. Do you want us not to talk to you?""
Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, MK Nachman Shai, who was chairing the meeting, tried to calm Mickey Levy, and asked him to respond to the bill.
But Levy continued: "I want the Knesset officer now! A member of Knesset is recording me? Why am I sitting in your interrogation room?" asked Levy, the former head of the police investigation department. "Where have we gone? I am in a state of emotional turmoil, I ask not to answer.".
Knesset Speaker MK Yuli Edelstein was also called to the scene, and promised to provide clarity on the issue.
The Deputy Minister of Finance stepped down from the podium, but after a few moments returned again, declaring: "MK Biran, our relations are over.".
The discussion continued as usual.
