Channel 2 News military correspondent Nir Davuri criticized the rumors on WhatsApp and social media today (Sunday), and hinted at their origin. This came after one of the families of Golani fighters killed in the ground operation in Gaza received a WhatsApp message informing them of their son's death.
One of the messages circulating during the afternoon supposedly quoted Debori:
""Nir Davori from Channel 2: The IDF is preparing to raise the news of Job in the coming hours. It is important to maintain high morale. This is war and this is its price. We must admit that we did not initially experience similar fighting with Hezbollah. The reality there is much more bitter. It is good that we are starting with a small organization and 'small' results.".
The message seemed strange and false to the reporter from Mako Liron, whose name is not his usual way of wording it. Just to be sure, she sent the message to Dobri - and this was his angry response:
""There are people who intentionally harm and try to undermine the security of the country. They invent news and rumors and feed them to reporters to give them volume and weight. It is almost impossible to fight this phenomenon," said Davori in a phone call from the Gaza border. "None of the quotes attributed to me were said by me and it can be checked, but you can't fight every person who comes and says something and you have to prove that you don't have a sister.
It's interesting that during Shabbat, the WhatsApp groups were quieter and calmer, there were far fewer rumors circulating throughout the country, and that says something.
"These groups are irresponsible, they harm the security of the country and shake and confuse the established media. We constantly find ourselves trying to deny WhatsApp rumors instead of doing our job.".
