Respond now to allegations of massacre in Sajaiyah

In 2002, the Palestinians claimed that there was a 'massacre' in Jenin • The IDF was busy with the war and did not find the time to deal with the claims. The result: a global onslaught of condemnations • In the face of the developing 'Sajjaiya massacre' affair, it is worth hurrying up and responding

A hospital director in Gaza said that this was an unprecedented massacre in Sajaiya. Over 40 dead and 400 wounded. Foreign journalists are also reporting on an especially difficult incident, which affected children and medical staff. I am convinced that the last thing that interests the IDF forces in the region right now is international propaganda. We need to deal with the militants and protect our forces, and that is much more important than what is being said now on CNN, but it is also worth remembering the lesson of the 'Jenin massacre' in 2002. The Palestinians claimed the 'massacre'. Saeb Erekat was interviewed and said it in his own voice. The IDF was naturally busy with ending the fighting, evacuating our casualties, notifying those who needed to be notified. By the time we began investigating what really happened there, a UN investigation team had already been established (with Israel's consent) and we were on the media and political defensive for weeks.

When it became clear that there was no massacre in Jenin, we still managed to cancel the UN inspection team (and thanks to the US), but it is doubtful whether we were truly able to convey the true picture of what happened there.

In short, this is the time, alongside all the other things we're doing, to collect photographic documentation of what happened there, investigate as much as possible, and go out to the media as quickly as possible with an initial version. The children who were killed on the beach in Gaza were 'swallowed' in the media by the Malaysian plane. It probably won't happen here again.
