So that's it, we're used to it...
Not that I'm here to update all of us on the miracles that happen here every few minutes, on hundreds of rockets aimed at the heart of a populated population and falling in 'open areas', on the phrase that may have already become a cliché, 'by the grace of God, there were no casualties and no damage was caused.'.
I'm talking about us.
When I speak of 'us,' I do not mean that we should start looking for the specific person I am talking about, for I am speaking first of all to myself, to you, to all those around you, our dear brothers who certainly care about the people of Israel.
We went through seven days of fighting, of hundreds and perhaps thousands of rockets that landed on most parts of the country. And on the 17th of Tammuz at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the first person killed during the rocket fire was Dror Hanin, who had just come to distribute food and sweets to soldiers who were giving their lives for us, so that we would be safer and more protected somewhere throughout the country.
The days between Egypt and Israel have always been days of mourning for the people of Israel, and therefore we must become doubly strong. Since Operation "Brothers' Return" and the kidnapping of Eyal, Gal-Ad, and Naftali, the people of Israel have undergone a process of reunification. The ties between the "State of Judea and Samaria" and the "State of Tel Aviv" have tightened, and they too have begun to recognize the painful and bleak reality of the residents of the south.
Recalculate route
Then you begin to embrace reality, recalculate your current life trajectory. Adapt yourself to the Home Front Command's defense doctrine. At the end of the day, we depend on the grace of heaven and the heavenly protection provided by Iron Dome. We don't have many choices, and every time the alarm sounds we must run to the protected areas. And the reactions? Everyone reacts differently, some stand impatient, nervous, and waiting in anticipation of hearing the impending explosion, some of us recite Tehillim, others rail against Hamas and assure that 'we will eliminate them very soon,' others stand in silence and remain silent. Each one with their own reaction to the color red. New thoughts actually came to my mind.
We are in the time of the Egyptians, and we must arouse the mercy of God. Not that we do not pray, God forbid, that we do not regularly say three psalms of Psalms after prayer, for the success of the people of Israel and the soldiers of the IDF. But since this is a period in which the people of Israel suffered from gratuitous hatred, from slander, from gossip, from disputes. Each of us will take upon ourselves one tiny thing. Simply take upon ourselves – silence...
Just shut up.
Sometimes something is burning inside us, and even though we really want to tell what happened – we just keep quiet. Sometimes we just want to burst out, to throw everything we really think at that snoozer, but instead of bursting out, getting angry, cursing, accusing – we just stop for a moment and think: maybe we should really keep quiet?
Maybe we should give up? Maybe it wouldn't be such a disaster if we reconciled and closed the matter? Maybe it's not that critical? Maybe it's just our ego that was hurt, and because of that we want to get even with him?
And if it's so hard for us, then I ask you: Go back a few hours and think about your child who is at school/kindergarten/daycare center and lying on the floor, cowering in terror with his hands on his head, while the alarm shakes hearts. Not for us, just for him. So that these days, which we all know are difficult days for the people of Israel, will pass in a series of miracles with no deaths, no injuries, no damage. That everything will end peacefully, for the sake of all of us...
I am aware that this is a big request, but this morning, with no small amount of difficulty, I already raised my hand and joined this initiative, the 'Iron Silence' initiative. Not for me, for our children, for our soldiers, for the people of Israel. I am sure that if we increase in free love, we will overcome the urge to slander, the anger that erupts. The days of Ben-Hametsir will continue in a series of miracles and everything will certainly look a little different...
