The recording, as you can hear, is old and has an interesting story behind it: Moshe Stern was invited to a concert in which the musicians played without a sound system, using only the acoustics in the auditorium.
In addition to Stern, cantors Naftali Hershtik and Ben Zion Miller were also invited, who agreed with Stern that they would perform without a microphone.
On the day of the concert, the two got 'cold feet' and chose not to attend. Stern was angry (the keen-eyed will notice this), but after all, those present in the hall claimed that Stern without a microphone sounded much better than the other performers with a microphone.
