In an interview published in the Shabbat supplement of one of the prominent secular newspapers, just two weeks ago, MK Omer Yankelevich was quoted as saying: "On the other hand, there were many - including senior officials and rabbis - who encouraged me to stay and claimed that it was precisely in this reality that my mission becomes more significant.".
When asked, "What is your position on the issue of conscription of yeshiva students?" she replied: "Torah study, in my opinion, is a supreme value that has preserved us as a people for thousands of years. The Haredi conscription is a solvable issue, but it is important to resolve this discourse through agreements, not through coercion that creates reaction and damage.".
And now, two weeks have passed since the interview was published, and it turns out that the highest value is just value. No more than a security. Maybe even just paper.
MK Yair Lapid, one of her party leaders, once said or wrote that when he met his wife, he presented his values to her, and gave her an ultimatum. These are my values! If they suit you, great! If they don't suit you - I'll change them. For Lapid, values are socks. When they're comfortable, great, when they're uncomfortable? To wash.
It turns out that two months in politics were enough for MK Omer Yankelevich to acquire morality, ethics, and values from number two on her list. Torah study, which was a 'supreme value' two weeks ago, has melted and faded in comparison to other values.
It is a time of testing: who knows whether you have arrived in the kingdom at such a time?!
You said in that interview that you are a social activist. A social activist?! In Likud you will be able to fulfill your mission many times more than from the opposition benches.
Is Torah study a supreme value? If you stand up for yours, you will be able to preserve it! Is there anyone who buys his world in an hour? Buy your world in an hour!
I find the idea of offering you a position in exchange for supporting the government puzzling. Don't defect! Just vote for the government, and you've bought your world.
Why offer you a position?! You will fulfill your entire destiny with the snap of a finger. Did you dream of more than that when you entered politics?
Is the vision of the great men of the generation, Rabbi Kanievsky and Chacham Shalom Cohen less good than yours?! Aren't they social activists?! Do they understand less than you?! Have you made weighty decisions in your life like they did?!
The number of people who voted Blue and White because of you is not even a thousandth of a percent of the people who flock to the greats of the generation. The emissaries of Gantz and Lapid at most. But you could instantly become one rare woman in the public landscape who is the emissary of the greats of the generation.
I will just quote in conclusion Mordechai the Jew, the one who dared to face Haman, the one who did not kneel or bow, in his words to Esther:
""Profit and salvation will come to the Jews from another place.".
I won't continue. God forbid. In any case, I wish you only the best in the world. But if you don't take the advice, you will become a passing episode in Israeli politics, instead of fixing your world in a second.
