The Shas faction in the Knesset gathered today (Monday) afternoon in the faction room to bid farewell to the outgoing faction chairman, former MK Ariel Atias, and to welcome the new MK, Yoav Ben-Tzur.
Attias complimented Deri in his farewell remarks and said: "As the chairman of a faction, friends spoke to me and I want to tell you that you are highly respected by the members of the faction and also by the members of the House.".
Deri said that he will continue to "use Ariel's good services... I just hope you don't charge us by the hour...".
The chairman of the Shas faction in the Knesset, MK Ariel Atias, announced last Thursday to members of the Shas Council of Torah Sages and the movement's chairman, Aryeh Deri, that he had decided to resign from his position in the Knesset. Atias promised the rabbis that he would continue to stand to the right of Shas and that he would engage in public activity on its behalf, even outside the political system.
In place of Itas, Yoav Ben-Zur, born in 1958, who served as CEO of the Maayan Torah Education Network from 2007 to 2013, entered the Knesset.
