About ten months ago, a serious accident occurred on Highway 6: a garbage truck collided with a bus. The accident killed four people and injured dozens.
United Hatzalah volunteer Yehuda Herzig, who was not far from the scene of the accident, was among the first paramedics to arrive to help the injured and even led the United Hatzalah teams, along with Yossi Wiesenstern, Avraham Porges and many other volunteers who came from Ashdod and the surrounding area.
In recent days, United Hatzalah volunteers from Ashdod received a phone call. There was a guy on the line who introduced himself as "Avi from Rehovot." Avi said that he was one of the seriously injured in the accident. He lost consciousness and his right hand, and his condition was described as serious.
He recently returned home, after beginning rehabilitation, and has since tried to contact the rescue forces who treated him at the time of the accident.
The volunteer duo Avrimy Forgers and Yehuda Herzig traveled to visit him in Rehovot, bringing with them a modest gift, sent by the head of the Lachish team at United Hatzalah, Rabbi Yinon Azulai: magnificent hymns with pictures for each psalm.
The moving encounter took place in a garden on the streets in front of passersby, whose faces also showed that they were moved by the encounter between the paramedics and the seriously injured man, who woke up and is undergoing rehabilitation.
The team of volunteers who thought they came to strengthen - came out strengthened, because my father is a guy whose smile never leaves his face, despite the severe injury, disability, and long rehabilitation that awaits him.
Yehuda Herzig did not remain indifferent and during the visit he recruited public figures and medical professionals to help my father, who is trying to recover from his injury.
Avraham Forges, who was among the volunteers who treated the accident and participated in the meeting, said that such meetings repeatedly fill the batteries of giving to volunteer at any time and anywhere.
The volunteers said goodbye to my father, promising to continue to stay in touch.
