Increasing the pressure: worsening the conditions of imprisonment of Hamas terrorists

חמישה ימים אחרי פתיחת מבצע 'שובו אחים', כינס היום (שלישי) ראש הממשלה שוב את הקבינט המדיני-ביטחוני לדיון בקריה בתל-אביב, בהשתתפות שר הביטחון משה (בוגי) יעלון והרמטכ"ל רא"ל בני גנץ. שרי הקבינט דנו בהתפתחויות המבצע להשבת שלושת הנערים החטופים, והחליטו "להמשיך בלחץ על החמאס כשהשר לביטחון הפנים הוסמך להחמיר בתנאי אסירי החמאס בבתי הכלא". במהלך ישיבת הקבינט קיבלו השרים סקירות ביטחוניות משר הביטחון משה יעלון, הרמטכ''ל בני גנץ וראש המטה לביטחון לאומי, יוסי כהן. גורמים מדיניים אמרו לאחר הדיון, כי "המשימה העליונה של מדינת ישראל היא להחזיר את החטופים", וכי ""We are in the midst of an operational and political campaign. And as the Prime Minister said yesterday in a call he received from Abu Mazen - the hijackers left PA territory and returned to it. Even today, Israel calls for the dissolution of the partnership between the PA and Hamas.". הלילה פעלו כוחות הביטחון במחנות פליטים בלאטה ועוורטא בשכם, כאשר בפעילות השתתפו כ-1,000 חיילי הנח"ל, בנוסף לכוחות המיוחדים של צה"ל. במהלך הפעילות נעצרו 41 מבוקשים, ביניהם בכירים מאוד בחמאס. בנוסף, נתפסו כלי נשק, מטענים, מחרטה לייצור נשק ותחמושת. מתחילת המבצע נעצרו כ-200 מבוקשים.
