After four days, Ofir Shaer, the father of the kidnapped boy Gil-Ad Shaer, spoke for the first time this evening [Monday]: "We know that Gil-Ad has strong faith. I am waiting for a moment to wrap you in a priestly blessing and a tallit and protect you, praying to the Creator that we will see you here by our side soon.".
Ofir began his remarks by thanking the people of Israel, "They tell us that we radiate strength, but I must tell you that this strength comes from you. We are waiting for children from birth to age 6, from Naftali to Eyal, our children, the entire people of Israel are engaged, we feel that everyone wants to see them here.
"We feel the connection of all the audiences and the public. We had representatives from the entire political spectrum and we are all united around the issue. We receive calls from people from all over Israel, we receive reinforcement from all over the world who are praying for our children.".
Shaer turned to the general public and asked for their spiritual help: "Continue to pray, strengthen each other, and strengthen the security forces and the Israeli government who are working day and night for our children.".
Gil-Ad's father also strengthened the hands of the security establishment: "We know that the Israeli government, the Prime Minister, the IDF and the security forces are doing their best and we seek to strengthen their hands.".
Herzog: Open an investigation into the source of the rumors
Meanwhile, politicians and public figures continued to arrive at the homes of the kidnapped heroes today, seeking to strengthen the family's hands. Among the visitors was also the chairman of the opposition, MK Yitzhak Herzog, who addressed the wave of rumors on social media: "There is a process at the end of which we will know the truth. As early as Friday, I argued that the police should have opened an investigation into the rumors and text messages that were spread. There is a strong family here that radiates confidence and strength, and the last thing they need is heartbreak.".
The opposition chairman also said that the IDF and the security forces should be supported. "They are doing their best. The fight against terrorism is not a matter for political debate, but rather a matter for the entire Israeli public. The region is very explosive and sensitive, and explosive elements need to be neutralized and cooperation with Palestinian security forces is needed.".
