Activists of the Jerusalem faction went out this afternoon (Monday) to demonstrate in several locations, due to the arrest of two defecting yeshiva students - Avraham Dov Petrov, the son of the "strong man" in the faction who was arrested on Friday during a protest in front of the Jerusalem Marathon and sentenced to 20 days in a military prison, and Yisrael Meir Toledano, who was arrested on the eve of Purim at his home in Ofakim, and has been in detention ever since.

So far, 20 protesters have been arrested for violating public order.

Several dozen protesters blocked the light rail tracks at the Shari Yisrael intersection, not far from Jerusalem's central bus station. Border Police forces operating at the scene cleared the protesters from the tracks and arrested several protesters.

The Shabbat Square area was also blocked off to traffic, as hundreds of members of the "ultra-Orthodox community" joined the demonstrations of the "fragment" activists. Large forces of police, with the assistance of the Zeit Brigade, worked to clear the demonstrators from the roads.

Some of the protesters even threw stones and objects at the police. One policewoman was injured in the hand and was taken for medical treatment.

Highway 1 towards Jerusalem was blocked to traffic at the Harel Interchange, following the outbreak of protesters onto the road - and reopened a short time later.

Several dozen protesters gathered in Sakharov Gardens, at the entrance to the city of Jerusalem. Some of the protesters sat down on the road.

The police said: "Some are disrupting the order by trying to block the road. The police arrested 3 protesters who blocked the road and did not comply with the police's instructions.".

""On Jaffa-Nordau Street in Jerusalem - several dozen Haredim are blocking the road intermittently. While the troublemakers were being evacuated, 4 were arrested for violating public order.".

The police also stated that they are "prepared at all points to prevent, as much as possible, disruption to the daily lives of city residents. Traffic police officers are regulating and directing traffic.".

Protesters also blocked the roads in a new area: Shari Yisrael, corner of Shamgar Street.

• Highway 412 was also blocked to traffic in both directions between the Beit Dagan intersection and the settlement of Beit Dagan - and opened a little over an hour later.

• About 100 protesters also gathered at the Masami intersection, carrying signs. Any attempt by them to block Highways 3 and 40 was met with a swift and determined response from the police forces on site.
