The Badachs She'erit Yisrael kashrut system is having difficulty functioning due to differences of opinion in the Lithuanian sector: Since the upheaval in the Yated Ne'eman newspaper, the kashrut system has refrained from publishing advertisements in the Haredi press - which almost completely disables its ability to operate in the field.
In order to avoid controversy, the Badatz has not published for a year and a half about kosher problems in factories and the like, and the list of those registering for marriage through the Badatz.
This year, after more than 25 years, the Badatz is not even publishing the 'Glat' kashrut guide, due to differences of opinion over the names and pictures of the rabbis and Torah scholars.
'She'erit Yisrael does grant kosher certification to individual factories, but the products are important staples, such as two poultry and beef factories, crystal drinks, grape juice, two hand and machine matzo factories, and Strauss' Achla salads. Because of this, there is criticism of how the system is run without informing the public at all through advertisements, and this year without even a kosher guide.
The controversy also has an impact on actual kashrut. Due to differences of opinion, two separate cattle slaughtering systems operate under the name 'Shearit Yisrael' abroad, as well as two poultry slaughtering systems in Israel - one headed by Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Schwartz and the other headed by Rabbi Nachum Yavrov.
It should be noted that the kashrut guides for Passover produced by the Badatz Eda Haredi are already available for purchase in bookstores and pharmacies. Eda Haredi printed two kashrut guides this year, one for the days of Passover and the other for the days of the year.
A source from Shearit Yisrael Kashrut said in response that the Kashrut system is preparing a magnificent guide that will be distributed in the summer, in preparation for the Sabbatical year.
