Excitement in the Shas faction in Jerusalem: The faction's chairman, Zvika Cohen, arrived at his office in the city hall at noon (Monday), for the first time since undergoing complicated heart surgery at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, and is currently recovering. The meeting held in his office was attended by council members Pini Ezra, Asher Mishaly, and also the new appointment - Avraham Bezalel, who was previously the head of his office and was appointed as a council member in place of Nahmaniel Saban, a council member who retired last month. After the meeting, Cohen entered the city council hall where he met with council members who wished him a full recovery. As first reported by Haredim 10, Shas is awaiting a decision on the appointment of Haim Cohen, chairman of the board of directors of the 'Press Line' group, as a member of the Shas faction in the Jerusalem City Council - in place of Michael Malchieli, who had previously served as a Jerusalem City Council member and entered the Knesset after Deri resigned. The decision is pending the decision of the President of the Council of Elders, Hacham Shalom Cohen.

According to Shas sources, Haim Cohen will not function as an ordinary city council member, but will likely be appointed as the faction's chairman and will receive all the powers currently held by the faction's head, Zvika Cohen. However, Zvika Cohen will continue to hold the title of Deputy Mayor, and will benefit from the salary that the position provides.
