A malfunction in a central underground electrical cable on Rabbi Yochanan Ben Zakkai Street in Elad has caused a power outage throughout the Haredi city since the early hours of Saturday morning. The director of the municipal hotline, Efi Stern, went to the home of the Datra rabbi, the rabbi Shlomo Zalman Grossman, to obtain his permission to invite the electric company's technicians to take care of the problem. The rabbi granted permission to carry out the work to restore the electricity supply, out of concern for the safety of life, but stipulated that no work would be carried out in public on Shabbat. As such, it was agreed with the technicians that this work would be postponed until after Shabbat. At 2:00 PM, electricity was restored to most parts of the city. "It was a nightmare," a city resident tells Haredim10. "Because of the heat, the food spoiled because the refrigerator didn't work.". The electricity company reported that power supply will be restored to all parts of the city by midnight.
