Two cases of synagogue arson on one Sabbath: A trailer synagogue belonging to Rabbi Yitzhak David Grossman, operated by a Chabad emissary, located near a gas station on Highway 6 near the settlement of Baqa al-Gharbiya, caught fire early Saturday morning.
The police say that "an initial investigation suggests that the caravan was set on fire. No suspects have yet been arrested.".
All the holy books and sacred objects in the caravan were completely burned.
The Holy Ark in a prayer room at a synagogue at 37 Hovevei Zion Street in Petah Tikva was also set on fire during Shabbat.
It is suspected that an unknown person entered the prayer room in the synagogue when it was empty of worshippers, apparently in the afternoon, poured flammable material on holy books and the ark, set it on fire - and fled.
The Ark and the curtain were damaged, but the Torah scrolls, protected by the metal surrounding the Ark, were not harmed.
The Petah Tikva police are taking the incident seriously, not ruling out suspicion of a hate crime - and have opened an investigation led by the station's investigations officer.
Deputy Minister Rabbi Ben Dahan responded to the arson attacks on synagogues: "In recent months, synagogues have been set on fire and the heads of state are silent. I expect them to condemn the act as if these were holy places for other religions. "In addition, the police must use all the tools at their disposal to locate the arsonists, and deal with them with force.".
