As the weeks and months pass and the knife attacks and car rammings continue, the sense of public outrage grows.
It is impossible to accept the hidden message coming from the government and the security forces, that this is a phenomenon we must live with.
Absolutely not! The approach should be completely opposite – it is a phenomenon that must be eradicated and cannot be accepted as part of the reality of our lives.
But there are elements who are trying to ride the wave of attacks to advance their position that has collapsed. Like a broken record, they are stuck on a position that believes in a magical peace that will be achieved through concessions and retreats, and don't confuse them with facts.
They saw what terrible bloodshed the Oslo Accords and the withdrawals from the cities of Judea and Samaria brought upon us. Like the rest of us, they too experienced the consequences of the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. And they are right: withdrawal now; 'political horizon.'.
We tried and we succeeded.
They now recite the mantra that the reason for 'lone wolf terrorism' is despair. And haven't we already tried to give 'hope', in the form of the Oslo Accords, and what have we gotten? - A terrible bloodbath, suicide bombings on our streets and exploding buses.
Even if we assume that desperation does indeed push certain people to carry out terrorist attacks, reality has proven that it was precisely 'hope' that drove a much larger wave of murderers.
And this is the truth that they refuse to see – the fuel that drives terrorists is not despair but rather hope. What is called a 'political horizon' is what inspires encouragement in the hearts of the murderers and their supporters, because they see the goal on the horizon.
There is no chance that they will give up and despair, as long as we ourselves give them hope.
The one and only way to defeat terrorism is to negate the 'political horizon'.
It is a fact that in the years when the Arabs did not harbor hopes of establishing an independent state, they lived their lives quietly, worked among us, took care of their livelihoods, and no one dreamed of committing suicide to murder Jews. The entire deterioration began the moment the 'political horizon' appeared, and then the struggle to achieve it began.
'The 'political horizon' is what fulfills the dreams of the murderers. It is what nurtures the expectations for the realization of the 'right of return.' It is what instills in the terrorists a sense of encouragement and success. They are seen as 'martyrs' on the altar of the 'Palestinian state' that is about to arise soon.
Anyone who talks about 'future concessions' invites the next terrorist act and prevents the possibility of eradicating terrorism.
The real dream
In fact, even the dream of a 'Palestinian state' is not a goal for the Arabs, but merely a means to destroy the Jewish state. This is the great mistake of those who cultivate the illusion of 'peace'.
The Arabs' problem is not the 'occupation' in Judea and Samaria, but the 'occupation' in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Acre and Ashkelon. They aspire to 'liberate' the entire land, from the sea to the river.
Therefore, ending the 'occupation' in the Gaza Strip did not lower the level of hatred, but quite the opposite – now our enemies felt that they had taken another step towards their great ambition, and immediately invested all their resources in turning the Strip into a giant missile base that threatens the entire country.
This is what those who wield knives from Judea and Samaria also strive for.
We must cut off this hope by conveying a clear message – we are here and we will stay here. Now is precisely the time to expand construction, to strengthen the Jewish hold on the Land of Israel.
When our enemies despair of hope, then we can live in peace.
