The sword that the Netanyahu-Lapid Bennett government has wielded over the world of Torah is beginning to cut through the living flesh: Hundreds of teachers in Talmud Torah schools across the country have received a letter in recent days from the managements of the Talmud Torah schools, informing them that if the economic decrees and drastic cuts in the budgets of educational institutions continue, their hours and salaries may be cut in the 2015 school year.
According to the team managers, "We have no choice but to cut hours and salaries. The economic decrees make it difficult to continue functioning, to the point of existential danger.""
The letter was sent in accordance with the Advance Notice Law, which requires that teaching staff be notified of any changes in their salary conditions by May 31st.
In a conversation with Haredim10, a source from one of the Torah schools said that currently, Talmudic schools with exempt status receive a budget of 240 shekels for each child - and according to the government's cuts plan, next year the budget will drop to 150 shekels per child. According to him, "the possibility of increasing the tuition charged to parents has been discussed, but the administrators are reluctant to take such a step, since parents are also suffering from the cuts and decrees imposed by this evil government.".
