The Knesset plenum held a special session today (Wednesday) in memory of the fifth President of the State, the late Yitzhak Navon, in the presence of President Reuven (Rubi) Rivlin, former President Shimon Peres, and members of the Navon family.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke in his memory and commented at the beginning of his remarks: "I have a wish. Sometimes these ceremonies intended to honor the memory of leaders are used for political bashing. I ask that this stop. We need to maintain our status.".
After Netanyahu's speech, the opposition leader, MK Yitzhak Herzog, spoke - and at the beginning of his remarks, he addressed Netanyahu's comment, as well as his tardiness: "If we are dealing with manners and etiquette, in a discussion like this in which President Rivlin and former President Peres participate, it is appropriate to arrive on time for an event of this type. This is for the sake of the honorable Knesset. If you had listened more to Yitzhak Navon, we might have been in a different place today...""
