The former Jerusalem mayor arrived at the Yad Sarah home in Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon and was greeted by hundreds of volunteers and friends with singing and dancing. In a speech he gave, with his wife standing by his side, he thanked the volunteers for not believing the prosecutor's claims, and hinted that "they made up all sorts of things for him.".
And so he said:
""After a full-throated confession to God, as David, King of Israel, said in the Psalms, "I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth, and in the presence of many I will praise him, for he stands at the right hand of the needy to save them from those who judge their souls." After we give thanks to God, I want to thank my wife, my children, my family, and my extended and loving family - the Yad Sara family.
''We rejoiced as we counted the years we had seen evil.' Today we rejoice with the great love of the entire people, rejoice that God, the Blessed One, has delivered us from the hand of... and has allowed us to serve the people of Israel further down the road - not for six months or six years, but further, further, as every Jew should live, to go out and see the plight of his brothers, to help them, to be caring towards them, to help and see how we can help more and more of his people.
True, the joy is mixed with a little sadness, since not everyone was blessed. But the Shulchan Aruch states that we recite the blessing "Hatov HaMatev" even when there is some sorrow involved. And even though there is sorrow for others, we rejoice, as it is said, "Hatov HaMatev.".
For six years we have gone through events, all kinds of requests and matters... all kinds of proposals, and it was not an easy period, upheavals here and there. Therefore, when I say 'we were happy according to our intentions,' I am happy that now we can - all with great love - continue to be those who care and those who move on and deal with public needs in faith,
We know, and I have felt this over the years, and it strengthened me greatly, when I saw the continued wonderful work of the Yad Sarah family, the great love, the disbelief in those who sew all kinds of things, and knowing that indeed everything here is done in faith to help others.
When we were in kindergarten, the kindergarten teacher told us that we had to drive away the darkness. She had a big stick and she said, "We came to drive away the darkness.".
We know that darkness is not driven out with sticks but with light. When there is wickedness, love must be added, and when one does not praise another and seeks out the other, we seek how to help him, how to see his distress and what to do to make it easier for him, to ease his pain and illness.
"We, in the name of God, will continue and do, will do and will work for the people of Israel, each and every one of us, in health, joy, good heart and peace, and in the name of God we will do and we will succeed.".
