Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent a colonoscopy under sedation this morning (Friday).
The examination was performed by Professor Eran Goldin, director of the gastroenterology department at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
The examination revealed several polyps that were successfully removed.
The Prime Minister's Office reported that Netanyahu has recovered and returned to full activity.
Netanyahu was accompanied during the examination by his personal physician, Dr. Zvi Berkowitz.
Defense Minister Moshe (Bogi) Ya'alon filled in for the prime minister during the inspection, which was carried out, as mentioned, under cover of secrecy.
Colonoscopy is an invasive medical examination that examines the lower digestive tract, and in particular the colon, using a flexible plastic tube inserted into the body with a tiny video camera and an optical fiber at the end for illumination.
