The Haifa District Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the Haifa District Court today (Thursday) against Murad Ali Hussein, a 25-year-old resident of Jenin affiliated with the Islamic Jihad organization, who was previously imprisoned for planning to stab a soldier at a checkpoint, after in April of this year he attempted several attacks in the Misgav Regional Council area, including trying to kidnap Jews from their homes. The indictment charges him with attempted kidnapping for murder or extortion, eight counts of manufacturing weapons, assault, and more.
A gag order imposed on the affair was lifted upon the filing of the indictment in court.
According to the facts of the indictment, about a month ago, the terrorist entered the territory of the State of Israel without a permit. Based on his hatred of Jews, the terrorist wanted to kidnap a Jew and even murder him and then demand that the State of Israel authorities release terrorists serving long or life sentences in exchange for his release.
First, according to the indictment, the terrorist tried to persuade a relative, who was a minor, to carry out the "kidnapping plan," but when the minor refused, the defendant entered a construction site in the settlement of Avtalion, took a knife, and while holding the knife, arrived at the home of the Shai family, who live in the northern settlement, who were at home at the time, opened the door, and in order to carry out the kidnapping and murder, attacked the owner of the apartment, burst into the house, and a fight broke out between the two.
The apartment owner managed to push the defendant out of the house and locked the front door, but the defendant continued to try to enter the house. At this point, the attacker pointed a gun at the terrorist and later shot the defendant in the legs with the gun, and the defendant fled the scene.
The indictment also states that on or shortly after April 20, 2014, after the "kidnapping plan" failed, the terrorist made 8 Molotov cocktails and later threw them at Jewish vehicles on several occasions, and that he tried, unsuccessfully, to set fire to a nearby grove using Molotov cocktails.
The Haifa District Attorney's Office submitted a request to the court to detain the defendant until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
The issue of illegal residents in Israel has recently come to the fore following their increasing involvement in terrorist attacks. The IDF is credited with the bus bombing in Tel Aviv (December 2013), the kidnapping and murder of soldier Tomer Hazan (September 2013), and the murder of soldier Eden Atias in Afula (November 2013).
