About six months ago, composer and songwriter Ovadia Hamma received a phone call: On the line was the director of the Information Center, Mr. Yitzhak Sonnenschein, who requested a song especially in honor of the State Assembly to mark the upcoming Jerusalem Unification Day.

The initiative thrilled Hamma, who immediately turned to the creative work, and with the blessed result, turned to singer Gad Elbaz - here for the first performance.

The song is performed by Elbaz together with two talented children from the "Music School" program - Shalio Menashe and Bar Tzemach, and it will be premiered at the state assembly to mark Jerusalem Unification Day, which will be held at Ammunition Hill.

''Jerusalem' is the third song (after "Birkat Hashanah" and "Tuda'el Ha'Chaim"), from the new project on the way: a complete album performed by Gad Elbaz to the songs of Ovadia Hamma and produced by him.

The union gave birth to a match.

The first artistic encounter between Gad and Ovadia took place in 2001. That's when Gad presented "When Tears Flow" on the album "The Greenhouse Effect," released in 2002. In retrospect, it turned out that the encounter between the two had a deeper connection, as it led Elbaz to meet his future wife...

Several years later, Elbaz was a member of the heavenly voice minyan in the prayer "Ana Bekah" with Ehud Banai and others. Gad Elbaz has unique vocal abilities and his star has been shining for years in performances among the traditional and religious community in Israel and around the world.

Over the years, Elbaz has performed additional songs from Hamma's rich repertoire. Among them, the most notable were: "Prayer for the Way" and "Prayer for the Rain" from the platinum album "Shyam va'eretz", "Kashahnashma Ma'ira", "Song of the World" and "Merchavim".

In recent years, the two partners have worked on an exciting collection of poems, whose name is: "Song of the Land" – a complete mosaic of ancient piyyutim and prayers in new melodies, songs of remembrance and thanksgiving, kissufim and love of the land.

With his powerful and refined voice, Elbaz offers his country-loving poetry of Hamma. The album will be released in 2014.
