Six months after opening a Twitter account, United States President Barack Obama also opened a new, personal Facebook account.

In a status he posted yesterday (Monday) featuring a video of himself walking the White House lawn, Obama wrote: "Hello Facebook! I finally have my own Facebook page. I hope you will consider this page as a platform where we can have a conversation about the important issues happening in your country, a place where you can get details directly from me, and share thoughts and stories.".

The president added: "At a time when nearly three out of four adults online use Facebook, it feels like a wonderful place to have these conversations.".
