Kirshenbaum studied film and television at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While in Los Angeles, he served as a representative for the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper in the Hollywood film industry.

In 1966, he was asked to return to Israel and assist in the establishment of Israeli television. In this capacity, he was, among other things, the editor-in-chief of the news program "Mabat" and later produced the satirical television program "Cleaning the Head," for which he won the Israel Prize for Radio, Television and Film Arts in 1976.

He has edited numerous documentaries and television articles. Over the years, Kirshenbaum served as director of the programming department of Israeli television and director general of the Israel Broadcasting Authority.

In recent years, Kirshenbaum has hosted the current affairs program 'London with Kirshenbaum' on Channel 10, along with Yaron London, and has produced nature films filmed in Africa.

Yossi Warshavsky, CEO of Channel 10, and Golan Yochpaz, CEO of News 10: "Channel 10, and in fact every media outlet where Moti passed through the many stations of his life, was blessed by this giant of journalism and television and was inspired by his personality and broad heart.

""In a world of journalism that is slowly losing some of its good values, Moti was a solid rock of professionalism, ethics, integrity, experience, explosive talent, creativity and innovation, even after more than fifty decades of journalism. From our perspective, Moti was the final professional judge in every journalistic dilemma.".

""When we were really struggling with a media issue, we would come to him to hear and receive his good advice. Shocked and hurt by the announcement, and warmly embracing the Kirshenbaum family.".
