Disaster in North Korea: A residential building in the capital, Pyongyang, collapsed last Tuesday, resulting in an estimated hundreds of deaths.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the incident today [Sunday], and a senior regime official apologized and expressed his "deepest condolences" to the families of the victims. This apology is considered an exception in the isolated and dictatorial regime that rules the country.

The statement said that "the construction of the apartment building was not done properly and those who supervised the construction did so irresponsibly." The statement also mentioned 'casualties', although the number of dead or injured was not specified. South Korea's Unification Ministry, on the other hand, reported that an estimated 92 families lived in the building, so the disaster likely claimed the lives of hundreds of people.
