As expected, the criminal murders committed in Jerusalem and the village of Duma sparked a wave of wild incitement against entire communities – ultra-Orthodox, religious, settlers, lovers of the Land of Israel.
Some were quick to take advantage of the shock to throw mud at their opponents and those who do not think like them.
This outburst exposes the hidden currents of hatred and resentment bubbling in the hearts of broad sections of the public, and particularly among those who call themselves 'enlightened.'.
It suddenly becomes clear how incapable they are of showing tolerance towards those who think differently from them, and how much they expect everyone to conform to their views.
These people are alarming the entire world about expressions of hatred towards their camp, and they don't feel how much toxic hostility is being expelled from their keyboards.
And the truth is that there is no equality here. Because on one side stand the talkbackists, who are naive and market people, while on the other side hatred erupts from academics, artists, journalists and politicians.
Evil plot
There is no reason to bow your head before this murky wave.
The actions of madmen should not tarnish an entire public. Criminals and the mentally ill are unfortunately found in every sector. Has anyone dared to discredit immigrants from Russia or Ethiopia because of criminals who came from among them? And when an academic committed a horrific crime, was the entire academy placed on the pillar of shame?
The foolish attempt to turn these lunatics into a product of ultra-Orthodox or religious education must be resisted with all force.
This is a vicious blood libel whose sole purpose is to sow hatred towards large groups of people. This libel was attempted to be cultivated following Rabin's assassination, and they continue to spread this lie even when it became clear that no rabbinical or spiritual figure supported such terrible acts.
Every Jew educated in the light of the Torah is suffocated by the very thought of bloodshed. The Torah teaches us that even the Sanhedrin, which had the authority to judge the cases of souls, was called a "fatalist" if it passed a death sentence once every seventy years. Even in our prayers we pray "that sinners may die" and not "sinners," and as the prayer on Yom Kippur says: "You desire the repentance of the wicked, and you have no pleasure in their death.".
Whoever murders people is a vile and despicable murderer. Period. He is a criminal, who violates one of the seven fundamental commandments that all human beings are commanded to observe, and the commandment "Thou shalt not murder.".
Such a person does not act in the name of the Torah, but on the contrary, he desecrates it and violates one of its most serious prohibitions.
Blasphemy
As mentioned, this wave of slander must be repelled with all force. And yet, a great sense of shame surrounds us. Even if we do not bear responsibility for these crazy acts, it is a disgrace to see a man wearing a kippah and with long sideburns brandishing a murderous knife at young men on the street.
Yes, it's shameful and shocking.
That is why these acts are doubly serious. In addition to the heinous murder itself, there is a blasphemy here before the eyes of the entire world.
The Torah of Israel should be identified with loving others and doing good, not with violence and bloodshed.
But we, unlike our neighbors, condemn such acts and renounce them with all our might and strength, and for that we are proud.
