Deri said: "From here we cry out - stop treating Torah students as criminals! Yeshivas are the pride of the Jewish people and the guardians of the embers of the people of Israel! Shas will continue to defend with all its might the status of Torah students, and will work this week to approve a Basic Law: Torah Study, which will anchor the supreme value of the Torah in the State of Israel.".

The visit, which was scheduled in advance, took place this morning. The Shas chairman was accompanied by MK Michael Malchieli and the movement's CEO, MK Haim Biton.

The delegation was accompanied by the prison commander, Lieutenant Colonel Shai Ben Baruch, the prison rabbi, and the professional staff on site.

During the visit, Deri met with about ten ultra-Orthodox people detained in prison, listened to their pain and heard from them about the conditions of imprisonment.

Deri distributed to them the books "Faith and Confidence" with a special dedication from the Rebbe, Rabbi David Abuhatzeira, and promised to send them the textbooks they needed.

Deri strengthened their spirits and made it clear that the entire Shas movement stands behind them, supports them and works with all its might to bring about their rapid release and regularize their status.

Outside the prison, Deri met with Rabbi Meir Levy, the father of the detained yeshiva student Yosef Levy, who has been sitting and studying Torah in front of the prison for several days in a row as a sign of protest and solidarity with his son and the imprisoned yeshiva students.

Deri embraced him and strengthened him in his fight.

This morning, MKs Yitzhak Goldknopf and Moti Babchik also visited the prison.
