Finance Minister Yair Lapid opened the Yesh Atid faction meeting at noon (Monday) with a statement about his party's plans for the summer session of the Knesset: "The summer session has opened, and in this session too, we will go every morning to work with the middle class.".

Immediately afterwards, Lapid reviewed a long list of laws that his party passed in the winter session, and said: "In the coming days, we will distribute the memorandum on the zero VAT law. We clearly say that whoever gives more receives more. A young person who donates is a better and more worthy citizen and deserves preference." He also said: "Next week, I hope that the Public Housing Act will be finalized in the Interior Committee and the plan to build rental housing will be launched.".

Continuing his remarks, the Yesh Atid chairman addressed the issue of Holocaust survivors and promised that "this coming Sunday, we will submit the national program for assistance to Holocaust survivors for approval by the ministerial committee and subsequently for legislation. The program will equalize the rights of survivors who immigrated after 1953. I call on the Knesset members to approve the law in a lightning process.".

In connection with the explosive partnership law, the minister stated: "In this session, we will advance the proposal for a partnership agreement that will allow any two people to choose how to express their love. This is not an anti-religious law." According to him, "We will enact this law just as we enacted the Equal Burden Law, even though no one believed it would happen. We are determined to fix what needs to be fixed and change what needs to be changed.".

And on the other side

The Knesset also held a meeting of opposition members today to discuss raising the minimum wage and abolishing the criterion that discriminates between Haredi and Arabs in housing. MK Dov Hanin of Hadash said: "This is a racist move not only against Haredi and Arabs. What will a disabled person who does not serve do? The Finance Minister's move aims to create hatred, a war against population groups. This is not a solution.".

Meretz chairwoman Zehava Galon spoke out sharply, saying that this is "another bluff by Lapid, another one of the schemes that Lapid plans for us from time to time. A cover-up for a failed policy. The Arab public already has a problem with building permits, now this discrimination is added.".

United Torah Judaism MK Moshe Gafni also attacked Lapid, saying: "Lapid is apparently racist! He specifically hurts the populations he doesn't like, Arabs and Haredim. This is a slippery slope.".

MK Ahmed Tibi called on the Legal Advisor to "remove the disgrace.".
