Last month, the Jerusalem District Court issued a series of rulings against the terrorist organization Hamas, as part of civil lawsuits filed by victims of terrorism and their families through the law firm of Arbus, Kedem, Tzur.
The total amount of compensation awarded is 3,351,523,862 shekels, and includes compensation for 516 victims of terrorism, including 78 murdered and 438 injured, who were affected by the murderous terrorist attack of October 7 and other terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas terrorists over the years.
The lawsuits were filed against Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, claiming direct and indirect responsibility for the terrorist acts.
While rulings have already been issued regarding Hamas, legal proceedings against the Palestinian Authority are still ongoing in court.
Now, the victims' representatives are expected to work to implement the verdicts using Hamas assets and funds that were seized and confiscated by the State of Israel, with the aim of transferring them to the victims of terrorism and their families.
The lawsuits stated that Hamas “initiated, planned and carried out the terrible massacre on October 7, 2023,” and that the organization is responsible for a series of murderous terrorist acts that claimed the lives of Israeli civilians and soldiers.
Attorney Barak Kedem, from the Arbus Kedem Tzur law firm, who represented the plaintiffs, said: ”The rulings issued last month are a significant step in the legal fight against terrorism. Along with recognizing the suffering of the victims and their families, there is also a clear statement from the Israeli legal system that terrorist organizations and those who support them will be held accountable for their actions. We will now use all the legal tools at our disposal so that the funds seized and confiscated from Hamas reach the victims of terrorism and the bereaved families, and do not remain on paper alone.“
Kedem added: “The legal struggle does not end with Hamas. The lawsuits against the Palestinian Authority continue, and we will continue to act until those responsible for financing, encouraging, and rewarding terrorism are also held financially responsible for their actions.”
