Yossi Piamente, the 64-year-old Hasidic virtuoso guitarist from the duo 'The Piamente Brothers', has been in a coma since Thursday.
His creative partner, musician Naftali Kalfa, updated on his Facebook page that on Thursday Piamente underwent surgery - after which he entered a coma.
The family asks for prayers for the complete recovery of Yosef Ben Genya. "One prayer can move mountains," wrote Kalfa.
Piamente was born in Jerusalem in 1951, to a father named Yehuda, who was a member of the secret service. For his bar mitzvah, he received a guitar as a gift from his uncle Albert, and taught himself to play.
He served his military service in the Artillery Corps Band. After his release, he performed with his younger brother, Avi Piamente, who played the flute, and together they founded the Piamente Band.
Towards the end of the 1970s, the two traveled to the United States - where they both converted, as did the rest of their family.
Yossi has six children with his wife, Vivian. He has released over ten albums, and has been praised by many music critics over the years, who have admired his unique techniques on the electric guitar.
His virtuosity earned him nicknames and comparisons to great musicians.
In recent years, his health has deteriorated, after he returned to Israel at his father's request.
