There's nothing like a mother: Chelsea Camp saved her daughter from a rabid dog after it bit off her ear and severed it, the New York Daily News reports.

Camp, a young woman from Texas, USA, volunteered to look after a friend's pit bull dog who was considered a "kind and calm dog," as she put it. She allowed the dog to play with her two-year-old daughter, but then she noticed that his behavior was changing dramatically. "I think it was because he smelled our dog's scent on the girl's clothes," Camp said.

The dog pounced on the girl and attacked her brutally. The terrified mother jumped at him, punched him in the face, and tried to put her hands in his mouth, but none of this helped - the dog continued to attack the girl. As a last resort, the mother bit the dog's ear and severed it. Only then did the dog retreat, howling, and the mother rushed to call the police.

The police officer who arrived at the scene shot and wounded the dog, which was taken to a veterinary clinic where it was euthanized. The mother and daughter were rushed to the hospital and treated for their wounds.

Camp says she and her daughter are now recovering from their injuries, and she has already removed the bandages from her arms. The girl is still recovering and will not be exposed to strong sunlight for the next year.

The mother says that despite the incident, she still loves dogs, and her daughter has not developed a fear of dogs despite the difficult event.
