Readers of the newspaper "Bakhi'ah" rubbed their eyes in disbelief this morning (Thursday): The newspaper's cover features a picture of the editor of the competing magazine "Mishpacha", Rabbi Moshe Grillak.
The cover headline is 'First Choice.' The subtitle reads: "Veteran writer Rabbi Moshe Grilak returns to 1959, when the Haredim went out to vote for the first time and chose a status quo for the emerging state.".
Did the esteemed editor actually choose to grant an interview to competitors, without informing the newspaper's management?
A conversation with senior officials at Mishpasha reveals that not only did the newspaper's editorial staff not know about this in advance, but also that "there was no interview." Rabbi Grilak himself also denies giving an interview.
The newspaper 'Bakhila', on the other hand, insists: A conversation with the editor did indeed take place.
An inquiry with one of the newspaper's writers reveals that, according to his knowledge, this was a panel with several interviewees, in which Rabbi Grilak said a few words. According to him, his words were later edited by the newspaper's editorial staff and presented on the front page as if an interview had been granted. "There was no such interview at all," he admits.
The newspaper 'Bekhila' told Haredim10: "We conducted an interview with Rabbi Moshe Grilak about the first elections that took place after the establishment of the state. Grilak gave the interview to the magazine's reporter Yitzhak Horowitz. This morning, when the editorial staff of the competing newspaper discovered the picture of the editor-in-chief hanging on the competing magazine, they embarked on a campaign of denial. We can only regret this, we acted in a completely ethical manner.".
