Over a thousand people came to participate last weekend in the prestigious cantor concert of the Tel Aviv Institute for Cantorship, which took place in the Great Synagogue Hall in Tel Aviv, with the participation of great cantors, and a large audience.

Despite the rain and cold, and despite the parking problem in Tel Aviv, crowds of cantor enthusiasts, Haredi, religious and even secular, came to participate in an evening of cantorship and artistic Jewish singing, with the participation of cantors, Dudu Fischer, Shai Abramson, Gideon Zellermeier, Daniel Kaltov, Shalom Salomon, Eli Valls, Reuven Pinsky and Avraham Bernholz.

The concert was accompanied by the Tel Aviv Institute of Cantor Choir, conducted by Cantor Naftali Hershtik, who was joined by conductor Meir Briskman, who serves as a teacher and assistant conductor at the institute. On the piano was musician Raymond Goldstein, who conducted the concert musically by an artist.

The event, which took place in the Great Synagogue in Tel Aviv, also marked the renewal of the synagogue in light of Shlomo Pivko's accession to the position of synagogue president.

Among the many cantorial works that were performed, speeches were given by Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, Chief Rabbi Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, Knesset Member Shai Piron, and Dan Lahat, son of the legendary mayor of Tel Aviv, Shlomo Lahat (Cheetz), in whose memory the concert was held.

Lahat was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of cantorship, was one of the founders of the cantorship concerts in Tel Aviv and supported the establishment of the Tel Aviv Institute for Cantorship, which for thirty years has been teaching cantorship in Israel and around the world under the baton of Cantor Naftali Hershtik.
