Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. His fortune is estimated at nearly $100 billion.

Bill Gates has another title: the world's greatest philanthropist. In other words, Gates is the richest person who gives more of his money to charity than anyone else in the world.

But the latest philanthropic venture of the American who invented Windows is of great interest, even to those who are accustomed to the man's innovations.

Gates decided to build a large factory that would turn waste, feces, and dirt into a source of water and electricity. No less.

Bill Gates' website states: "Waste in third world countries contaminates drinking water and causes the deaths of 700,000 children a year. In addition to hundreds of thousands of deaths, the waste causes delays in the physical and mental development of children.".

Gates initiated a project called Omniproxer, located north of Seattle, in which machines operate at high temperatures [1000 degrees Celsius], sterilizing the bacteria from the garbage and feces, and turning them into fine organic material, from which electricity and water can be produced.

The large plant is capable of producing 86,000 liters of drinking water per day, and 50 clean horsepower of electricity.

""This is a great example of philanthropy that both creates jobs for people and solves big problems," Gates explains.

In the video, the billionaire is seen tasting the drinking water, and on his blog he wrote that it "was very tasty.".
