Residents of Mea Shearim were surprised a few weeks ago: a lawyer, accompanied by undercover police officers, took over a new building built on the outskirts of the neighborhood by a local contractor, while changing the locks on all the doors of the building, which was not yet occupied.

A few days earlier, lawyers, accompanied by police, entered a silver and gold store, also located on the outskirts of Mea Shearim and owned by the contractor, and removed crates full of merchandise.

Rumors were flying everywhere. Some said: The Zionist authorities were harassing another Haredi.

But they didn't know the real story.

This week it emerged that about 4,000 silver and gold items confiscated by a receiver from the store were sold. This was due to a debt of about 450,000 shekels filed against the contractor by several suppliers. In addition, the contractor owed 29 million shekels to various parties, and after failing to meet payments, the court appointed a receiver to enter the store.

The contractor appealed the court's decision to appoint an incoming receiver, but about a year ago the Supreme Court rejected the petition.

As a result, the new building will also be put up for sale. This is after lawyers Eitan Erez and Raz Mengel, representing the suppliers, sought to declare the contractor bankrupt, fearing that the small debt would not be paid before the large debt.

They also requested that attorney Eitan Erez be appointed as a temporary receiver of all of the contractor's assets. As mentioned, several weeks ago, attorney Mengel arrived, accompanied by a police force, and confiscated the building. A guard was posted near the building 24 hours a day.

Attorney Raz Mengal: "I do not find it appropriate to address or respond to the substance of the matter. The receiver acts according to the court's instructions and will continue to do so.".
