The Yoke of the Rabbinate: The merchants in the wholesale market in Jerusalem were surprised to discover one weekday, at 4 a.m., the city's rabbi, the Gra Stern, when he came to make a surprise inspection of the place.

Since taking office, Rabbi Stern has instituted a surprise inspection procedure in various locations to closely monitor the conduct on the ground. The visit was accompanied by the head of the Donations and Tithes Department in the Jerusalem Rabbinate, Rabbi Pinchas Kalisch.

During the visit, Rabbi Stern examined the various certificates and the source of the goods and the supervision that exists over each field. The Rabbi also checked that tithes are being set aside as required, and that the prohibitions of the year of the sabbath are being strictly observed, along with the prohibitions of hybrids and circumcision. He was positively impressed by the functioning of the organization, and complimented Rabbi Kalisch on his dedicated and excellent work, stating that "everything was checked as required.".

Rabbi Stern's assistant, Avinoam Kutsher, commented on the surprise audit on his Facebook page, and last night at 3:45 a.m., he posted a status: "On the way to the audit of the wholesale market... Who said it wasn't fun to work in the city rabbi's office?!".
