Did the police have advance information about the extremists' protest? According to a report by journalist Liran Tamari, police correspondent for the Ynet website, as early as Wednesday afternoon - hours before the riot in the yard of Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg's house - police intelligence indicated that an ultra-Orthodox faction was organizing a demonstration.
The police claim in response: "No information was received about a protest in the area. The Israel Police constantly receives indications regarding various events."
According to the report, the police are investigating whether it was possible to "enrich" the information.
Last night, dozens of extremists from Beit Shemesh arrived at the home of Supreme Court Judge Noam Solberg, in the settlement of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion - and held a violent protest over the arrest of Haredi 'renegades' for the crime of studying Torah.
The rioters tried to break into the house - and after failing, they smashed the windows and wreaked havoc. The Solberg family's car was also vandalized. The protesters damaged the entrance hall of the house, breaking vases, flower pots and lamps.
After the riot, the protesters got on a bus and tried to leave the scene. A large police force arrived at the scene and chased them, stopped the bus with 65 protesters, locked them down until additional forces arrived - and arrested the suspects.
This afternoon, 62 of them will be brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a detention extension hearing.
