
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Sunday) his decision to appoint Shmuel Ben Ezra to the position of Chief of the National Security Staff - NSC, and Advisor to the Prime Minister for National Security.
The Prime Minister's Office noted that Ben Ezra brings with him over thirty years of experience in protecting the country's security. He headed the project to develop the Arrow 3 interceptor missile, which won the Israel Defense Prize.
In his last position at the Shin Bet, he served for four years as head of the Operations and Cyber Technology Division - equivalent to the rank of major general.
Ben Ezra, who lives in the Har Homa neighborhood, is the son-in-law of the late Rabbi Benny Eisner. He has 11 sons and a daughter. His sons studied at the Horev Yeshiva, and two of them studied at the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva. One of his sons is an avrech at the Neot David Kollel.
Ben Ezra attended high school in Horev, and from there he went on to join the army, and did not continue to yeshiva. He studied academics at the Lev Institute, where he particularly distinguished himself.
He studied for years in a fraternity with Rabbi Elisha Wischlitzky, zt"l, and was a member of his household. He is now studying in a fraternity with Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, the head of the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, and Rabbi Nachshon Rubinstein of the Eretz Hemda kollel.
Laban Ezra has a bachelor's degree in applied physics with honors, a master's degree in applied physics, a master's degree in business administration with honors, and a master's degree in political science in the field of national security with honors.
He is a graduate of the National Security College.
