Attorney Gali Baharav Meyara decided today (Thursday) to file a serious indictment against Yonatan Urich, a close advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Bild affair - for two acts of passing on confidential information with the intent to harm state security, as well as destroying evidence.
The decision drew heated reactions.
Urich himself criticized Baharav Meyara in a tweet on his X account: "A piece about the outgoing attorney general giving up on my execution.".
His attorneys responded: "Like in the 'witness harassment' case - in which it turned out that the witness was not harassed - this case will also be closed.".
Party leaders attacked Baharav Miyara for the decision.
Chairman of Shas Aryeh Deri Attacked in the afternoon: "The ousted attorney general is trying to divert public opinion from the expected defeat she faces over the appointment of Roman Goffman, and therefore she is attacking Yonatan Urich as part of the continued political persecution and the attempt to overthrow the right-wing government through the judicial system.".
""I have known Jonathan for many years as a man of faith and God-fearing, dedicated, professional and a true patriot of the State of Israel.
""The attempt to attribute to him a violation of state security is a disgrace, aimed at removing him from the Prime Minister's Office and terrorizing right-wingers. Jonathan, be strong and courageous.""

Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana He attacked the accusations against Yonatan Urich at noon (Thursday) and wrote: "The attempt to attribute to Urich 'an intention to harm state security' for the act attributed to him is systemic madness.".
He said, "I have known and respected Yonatan Urich for many years. The State of Israel is dear to his heart. The people of Israel are very dear to him. He will also face this crazy accusation with pride.".
Ohana also harshly criticized Gali Baharav-Miara, claiming: "He is maliciously using the legal system as a weapon against one side of the political map.".
