A clear message to Torah Judaism? Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri today (Wednesday), after the vote in a preliminary reading on Deputy Minister Yisrael Eichler's 'dormitory law', hurled harsh words at Knesset members from the left.
"Your criminal vote against the dormitory law proves how great your hatred of the Haredi public is," Deri said. "Who could even imagine any cooperation with you?!""
The Shas faction responded after the vote on the bill: "The Knesset today made a clear and decisive voice against the Ombudsman: Cruelty to toddlers is enough to harm their parents who study Torah!""
According to the party, "The dormitory law approved today with the support of Shas is a moral and ethical statement against the criminal decision to harm helpless children just because their parents are Torah students. The attempt to exert pressure on yeshiva students by harming toddlers is a cruel step - and Torah students will not surrender.".
""The Shas faction expresses appreciation to the coalition chairman, MK Ofir Katz, who worked vigorously to mobilize the necessary majority, as well as to the Likud and Otzma Yehudit factions, who demonstrated full partnership with the values of the Torah.".
Shas attacked religious Zionism: "Shas expresses deep anger and disappointment with the religious Zionist faction, which chose to abstain from this moral vote and thereby gave a hand to the persecutors of the Torah world and haters of Judaism. This is a mark of disgrace that will not be erased! Those who exalt the right-wing bloc with their mouths are the ones who dismantle it with their actions.".
MK Erez Malul attacked the left in the plenary: "The awl is out of the bag! Yesterday we heard Yair Golan admit in his own voice that the criticism of the conscription law is populist. There is no concern here for either security or equality. Lapid, Lieberman, Bennett, Golan's words prove that everything you do is cheap politics.
""When will you stop inciting and sacrificing an entire public on the political altar for a few more mandates and headlines? Stop tearing the people apart.".
