The Northern Brigade forces and the Yahalam unit, under the command of Division 252, have been operating in recent months in Beit Hanoun, east of the 'Yellow Line', to systematically destroy above-ground and underground terrorist infrastructures, and to protect the settlements of the western Negev.
As part of the engineering operation, the forces carried out hundreds of systematic drillings, through which they located and destroyed more than 11 kilometers of underground tunnels.
Additionally, hundreds of land-based terrorist infrastructures were destroyed.
During the fighting that took place in the area throughout the war, three additional kilometers of underground bunkers were destroyed and many terrorists were eliminated by the various brigades operating in the area.
Shah Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip was one of the central and complex fighting centers where the forces operated in the maneuver. In the fighting in the area, the forces encountered terrorists, acted with heroism and courage, and during the course of it, IDF fighters fell defending the settlements of the western Negev and the Beit Hanoun battalion was defeated.
For years, the area served as a central terrorist stronghold for the Hamas terrorist organization, where the organization's terrorists operated from terrorist infrastructures that were embedded in the heart of the civilian population.
An underground network has been built over the years beneath residential buildings, public institutions, and traffic routes, which terrorists have used to carry out terror plots against the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF forces.
