Most of the committee members determined in their opinion that Major General Goffman's moral integrity was beyond reproach, and that they were even substantially and practically strengthened in their opinion in light of the additional materials that were submitted to them.

The chairman of the committee, retired judge Asher Grunis, remained in the minority in his opposition to the appointment.

The Prime Minister's Office said that Netanyahu expects that the petitions to the High Court of Justice against Goffman's appointment will now be rejected.

A statement from Netanyahu's office said: "The Prime Minister completely rejects the minority opinion that determined that the issue should be further examined, and says that General Goffman was subjected to unnecessary torture and the mountain did not even produce a mouse.".

""The Prime Minister expects the Supreme Court to reject the petitions and not delay Major General Goffman's entry into office immediately upon the end of the term of the outgoing head of the Mossad, in the midst of a war on seven fronts.".

Judge Grunis argued that "it is appropriate that the committee conduct further examination and review of various matters, especially those I mentioned and others that have not been before the committee so far. All of this with the aim of re-examining, comprehensively and fully, the "purity of character" regarding Major General Goffman when he served as commander of Division 210.".

Grunis also noted that due to the short schedule and because Goffman is expected to take office in a week, another person should be brought in to serve in the position for a short interim period.

In his response to the committee, Major General Goffman came out against outgoing Mossad head Dedi Barnea, who opposed his appointment: "Barnea's letter is causing me damage on an international level. One can only speculate what the heads of organizations around the world who read this letter think. In Israel too - people I know have distanced themselves a bit.".

Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri tweeted: "More than Roman Goffman needs the Mossad - the Mossad needs Roman Goffman.".
