The IDF and Shin Bet officially announced today (Saturday) that the mastermind of the murders, Izz ad-Din al-Haddad, head of the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organization, was eliminated on Saturday night in a targeted airstrike by the Air Force in Gaza City.

Is 100,000 NIS right for you before Shavuot? Last hours for the big lottery!

The attack was carried out using drones and fighter jets on Izz ad-Din al-Haddad's hideout apartment, as well as a vehicle that left the scene at the same time, to prevent his attempt to escape and survive the attack.

IDF sources said the intelligence was accurate, and that Al-Haddad was the target that was attacked. Three fighter jets participated in the attack and 13 munitions were dropped.

Al-Haddad was the last surviving senior member of the terrorist organization who led, planned, and promoted the murderous massacre on October 7.

Haddad was called "the ghost of Hamas' military wing" because he survived Israeli assassination attempts over the years.

On October 7, Haddad served as the commander of the Gaza City brigade and advanced in the organizational hierarchy as a result of the assassinations of his counterparts and senior figures. After the assassination of Ahmed Ghandour, he became the commander of the northern Gaza Strip, with Muhammad Sinwar serving as the commander of the southern Gaza Strip.

After the elimination of Sinwar the Elder, Haddad was appointed head of the organization's military wing, and he was the only one who served as a brigade commander in Hamas' military wing on October 7th who was not eliminated.

During the war, he often changed hiding places and even dyed his hair and shaved his beard to make it harder to identify him.

Doron Kadosh, the military correspondent for Galts, wrote about the assassination in the Gaza Strip:

  1. The most senior figure in Hamas in the Gaza Strip today. He effectively replaced Muhammad Sinwar, who was eliminated exactly a year ago - in mid-May 2025.
  2. Haddad is a veteran of Hamas' military wing - and one of the planners of the October 7 massacre. At the time of the attack, his position was commander of the Gaza City Brigade in the military wing. In the top ten of the military wing.
  3. As the Israeli assassinations progressed, Haddad advanced in his seniority within Hamas during the war: after the assassination of Ahmed Ghandour, the commander of the northern Gaza Brigade, he took command of the entire northern area of Gaza.
  4. After the elimination of all the previous Hamas commanders - the Sinwar brothers and Muhammad Deif - and all the other brigade commanders in Hamas' military wing (Ghandour, Nofal, Salameh and Shabana) - Haddad remained the only senior Hamas figure. Thus, he took over the de facto command of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
  5. Haddad spent much of the war hiding in tunnels, often in close proximity to the hostages who served as human shields for him - and for this reason he could not be killed. Many hostages who returned from captivity testified that they spoke to him, including in Hebrew.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "The IDF attacked in Gaza the master murderer Izz ad-Din al-Haddad - the leader of the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organization and one of the architects of the October 7 massacre. Haddad was responsible for the murder, kidnapping, and harming of thousands of Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers. He held our hostages captive with severe cruelty, launched terrorist acts against our forces, and refused to implement the agreement led by US President Trump to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the Gaza Strip.".

Netanyahu added that the IDF and Shin Bet "are well implementing the government's policy of containing threats and defeating our enemies ahead of time. We will continue to act forcefully and decisively against anyone who took part in the October 7 massacre.".

Chief of Staff Zamir said in a General Staff assessment of the situation after the assassination: "This is a significant operational success for the IDF, led by the Southern Command, Military Intelligence, the Air Force and the Shin Bet. This is an important closing of a circle. In all the conversations I had with the abductees who returned, the name of the master murderer, Izz ad-Din al-Haddad - one of the main perpetrators of the October 7 massacre and the head of Hamas' military wing, came up time and time again.".

The IDF Spokesperson's Office reported that the Chief of Staff instructed the Southern Command to maintain high operational alert.

Captivity survivor Omri Miran testified that he was forced to spend several times with Al-Haddad. "I saw evil with my own eyes - something that cannot be explained in words," his wife, Lishi, posted on his behalf. "The news that came a little while ago, about the official elimination of this despicable murderer, makes me feel a kind of small victory - a victory over evil, that the world is better today. As an Israeli, as a Jew, and as a human being.".

Liri Elbag, previously wrote on Instagram after an assassination attempt on Haddad: "Every dog has its day and you are a piece of dog.".

Emily Damari added: "Closing the circle is very important for a lot of people. He thought and planned October 7, he murdered my friends and many other dear people. He planned my kidnapping and he also held me in Hamas tunnels. God willing, we will reach everyone.".

The United States was informed in advance that Israel was hunting for Al-Haddad.
