""If we talk about the issue, which is kind of an elephant in the room, it's important for me to explain why I'm calling for dialogue and reaching an agreement," Herzog said of the pardon request.
He said, "In these heavy issues, which divide Israeli society and burn the hearts of all of us, the right way, as much as possible, is to reach understandings and agreements. As soon as one side said it was ready to enter the room, I expect the other side to do so as well.".
On the elections and the conscription law, he said: "I will do everything to unite and bring Israel to its 80th year, more calm and less divided. And this is possible, because a great deal of Israeli society wants and demands it.".
""We are now entering the elections, and I have already said that there is fuel vapor in the air when we enter the elections, certainly in a society with so much polarization. But I think the silent majority is ready to mobilize with all its might to tell its elected officials: 'Put down the flames.'".
